We caught up with Marcella Morrison to talk about their wellness programming.
Hi Marcella! What’s your role?
I’m part of the People and Culture team.
What sort of programs do you run?
In terms of wellness, we’re building out our health and wellness mandate, which covers a lot of different areas: We did a financial wellness seminar. We just did a benefits reviews session to remind people that they have a wellness spending account. You can go get a massage. You can get a physio. And there’s more!
How is the company structured in terms of locations?
We’ve been remote first since COVID. I’m in Toronto Head Office, which is our biggest, but we have a variety of people scattered across various provinces, and around the world.
How do you manage the hybrid remote setup?
We’re asked to go into the office once a week for face to face meetings. Once a month, we have lunch and a virtual all staff meeting. We’re one big happy family on the call, and I end the meeting with all the fun stuff, like our challenge update. Then we have three big, in person parties: Spring party, summer party, and a Christmas party.
What’s the mission of the challenge program?
We’ve just always want to encourage people to be healthy!
How does it work?
Last year during the summer we did a May to June challenge. We had about 70 people. We also have a fitness Slack channel, and we ran a push up contest. We have people who are very competitive, very hardcore.
How did it go over?
Last year we did a survey: Some of the questions were: How did you like it? Did you hit your personal goal? Would you do it again? People were very positive about it! On my end, it was actually pretty good setting up the challenge. It was easy, and I’m not tech savvy. It has to be easy for someone like me!
