Genius Walkers Talk the Talk
The Joy of Walking via NY Times
An inspiring celebration of walking out today from Andrew McCarthy in the Op Ed section of the NY Times. This is not your normal, dry wellness piece, but rather a wonderful collection of quotes from brilliant walkers in history. From Wordsworth and Dickens to Kierkegaard and Nietzsche — not to mention J.K. Rowling and Hippocrates.
Said Dickens: “If I could not walk far and fast, I think I should just explode and perish.” Dickens was clearly a New Yorker at heart. W.H. Davies, a Welsh poet, came up with this verse that I love:
Now shall I walk
Or shall I ride?
“Ride,” Pleasure said.
“Walk,” Joy replied.
And there are more, and all worth pondering on long stroll…
